Step Changers

Why do you exist?

We exist to eradicate poverty, achieved by matching businesses with credible education, conservation, equality and healthcare projects from across Asia and the Pacific. The hope is that we can make corporate social responsibility normal in the process.

What are the biggest challenges facing Step Changers this year?

The biggest challenge for us is - how do we convince our businesses that corporate social responsibility should be normal? How do we streamline that philanthropic feeling and make it purposeful for businesses, so that they want to do more with their CSR? How do we make it normal?

How did Step Changers get to where it is now?

It started with a belief that doing more than turning a profit in this day and age is fundamentally cool, and so I started writing on different businesses and non profits and the big challenges they were facing. After six months or so, the decision was made to register as a non profit, so we could fundraise for projects and bring them together with businesses. The idea was always to make it as easy as possible for a business to find the community projects it wants to support. The actual setup process involved living in Asia for four months, visiting projects, and then growing upwards from there.

Help us fundraise for 40 community projects in 2018

If you are a part of a business that likes what we're doing, and wants to help us do more of it, we'd love to hear from you. From one-off donations to ongoing partnerships, we would be so grateful for any support you can give. 100% of what your business gives to Step Changers will go towards developing our projects platform, so that more businesses can find community projects to support.

What are you most proud of in the Step Changers journey so far?

Being approached by a big New Zealand based corporate for help on their Corporate Social Responsibility strategy. It was a moment of realising how important this is and how possible this can be.

Who are some of the people you have been helping?

Every project you see on this website has been found by us, and the content created by us. Our work is in the marketing and fundraising side - we find projects worthy of better publicity and create content for them. Some of these have included KidsCan, Wish for Fish, OKE Charity, Cambodia Charitable Trust, UNICEF, Prepair, the Red Road Foundation, and the Friends of National Parks organisation. The list grows longer every month.
