2018 for Step Changers

Things always take longer than you think, and the average start up takes six years to get going. Two sayings that I've had at the back of my mind since starting out on Step Changers almost two years ago now.

In that time, this little project has gone from a dream, to a blog, to a registered charity, to a growing team of seven! At first, I wrote 'we' and meant 'me' and hoped no one would notice the difference or look at the about section, but now I can actually say 'we think' and it means - 'here's our shared vision for you to mull over'. That in itself, is a great stage to have conquered.

This year is going to be an exciting one for us because it's finally time to get going. We're that much closer to 'ready' - the first projects are onboard, we understand the intricacies of Corporate Social Responsibility that much better, the website is complete, the paperwork is documented. You'll start seeing us pushing for business partnerships more often and advertising the needs we do have on our files. You'll hear from the likes of Bayu in Indonesia, who needs $764USD for his eagle enclosures, and from Irene from Prepair New Zealand, who needs funding for her team's domestic violence workshops in high schools around New Zealand.

We also re-visited Bayu and the Friends of National Parks team in February 2018.

We're also going to be looking for speaking opportunities to start sharing our message on corporate social responsibility too, so we can share our view on why it is so important for businesses to think about what their 2% contribution looks like. We'll share case studies on businesses who are doing it right, and look to start consulting on corporate social responsibility strategies for businesses. At some stage we're also going to have a launch event to celebrate existing and all the work that's gone in to SC so far.

So it should be a big year! I'm really looking forward to introducing you to the new volunteer team because they're all really inspiring women (we've ended up with an all female team so far though this wasn't planned). As soon as we've got our photos together I'll let you know who they are and what they're going to be leading for SC so you can get in touch if you'd like to. I have to say a big thank you to Collaborate for their work in finding our volunteers - such a cool website if you're looking for something to contribute to just now, or if you are a charity that's looking to grow its team.

Out with Wish4Fish late last year in the Coromandel.

I'd love to hear from you if you've got any questions about what we do, or if you know of anyone who might be interested in being on the Step Changers board in the near future. We're just starting the process of looking for someone new, so if that sounds like you - send us an email as we'd love to hear from you.

Looking forward to surprising you in 2018 - and to making corporate social responsibility all the more normal in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

See you soon!

Rosie.
